Protective shield for events
Since January 18, 2021, applications can be submitted via the Austrian Hotel and Tourism Bank (ÖHT) (German only).
Since March 2021, the maximum funding amount per organizer under the protective shield I ("Schutzschirm I") has been EUR 2 million. Applications can be submitted until the beginning of December 2021. Funding is provided in the form of a grant of up to 90% of the eligible costs.
In July 2021 the protective shield was adapted; under the protective shield II ("Schutzschirm II) the maximum liability amount per organizer is EUR 10 million and thus also supports large and particularly value-added events. This is a liability for up to 80% of the proven financial disadvantage due to Corona-related cancellations or restrictions. Applications are possible until October 2021.
Only costs incurred after the application has been submitted can be taken into account. (This does not include advance payments for the long-term advance booking of venues). Applications will be processed by the Austrian Hotel and Tourism Bank (ÖHT).
Protective shield also covers international organizers
Organizers from outside Austria can also apply for a grant. The prerequisite is that the event is held in Austria. The protective shield applies if an event is canceled or restricted for reasons objectively related to COVID-19. An event is considered restricted if more than 30% of the participants cannot take part in the event due to COVID-19.
