Covid-19 Rapid Test
The test has a 99.9% certainty for negative results and a 97.5% certainty for positive results. The official approval was granted by the AGES (Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety).
For the new antigen test, a throat swab is taken by the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (a Red Cross organization). The subsequent procedure is similar to a pregnancy test: after applying a few drops on a test cassette, an evaluation is made by test strip. Conducting the test takes an average of 15 minutes from swabbing to receiving the test result. If the result is positive, a PCR test is performed in the second step.
The rapid test procedure was successfully used in Vienna as a pilot project by the Austria Center Vienna with approx. 2,000 people tested and at the Vienna Tourism Conference with 240 participants.
The test represents a useful addition to a hygiene and safety concept.
