Colorful and diverse: Vienna's new hotels

New glamour for Austria's largest hotel: Hilton Park Vienna

In the midst of the pandemic, Meeting Destination Vienna set a particularly good example with the Hilton Vienna Park. The hotel, one of the largest downtown meeting and event hotels in Europe, reopened in late summer 2020 following extensive renovations. And the results are impressive: the London-based design team of Goddard Little, which took its inspiration from the splendor of Viennese Art Nouveau, was responsible for large parts of the redesign. The approx. 3,500 square meters of event space and the business centers of the Hilton Vienna Park also sparkle anew. The best prerequisites for a perfect meeting are also offered by the exclusive outdoor areas of the Executive Lounge with a view of St. Stephen's Cathedral. The lavish revitalization also resulted in the creation of dozens of new rooms offering a fantastic view of the green oasis of Vienna's Stadtpark and the Wien river. Especially practical: the 663-room hotel in the center of Vienna can be reached directly from the airport in just 16 minutes with the City Airport Train (CAT).

A different way of meeting

The Hotel Andaz Vienna is a breath of fresh air for meetings and events. Fans of contemporary architecture will love the hotel, which opened in 2019 just a few steps from the Baroque Belvedere Palace and the ultramodern Vienna Main Station. The ensemble of high-rise buildings was designed by the Italian architecture world star and Pritzker Prize winner Renzo Piano. The result is a luxury and lifestyle hotel with 303 rooms and around 2,200 square meters of meeting and event space. From large conferences with up to 900 participants to smaller business meetings, everything is possible at the Hotel Andaz Vienna; it is also suited for presentations and festivities of every kind. A large outdoor terrace also offers the possibility for events under an open sky. High up on the top floor is the Aurora Bar – one of the most impressive rooftop bars in Vienna, with spectacular views of the Belvedere and the whole of downtown Vienna.

Hotel Motto

When it opens in fall 2021, Hotel Motto will add a new hotel to the Viennese portfolio that in many ways is in a class all of its own. located on Mariahilferstrasse, the capital's busiest shopping street and one of the liveliest spots anywhere in the city, the new arrival will serve up a touch of 1920s Parisian charm, contemporary Viennese style and a dash of Scandi coziness. Its official tagline is "Vienna meets Paris". And the opulence of the interiors is definitely on-message: featuring floral fabric wallpaper, decorative mirrors and fun chandeliers, the rooms and suites exude a dreamy, relaxed and creative ambience. Custom carpets, furniture, tiles and lamps designed exclusively for the hotel by Arkan Zeytinoglu Architects are paired with vintage furnishings – some of which are actual originals from the legendary Paris Ritz. But Hotel Motto is not just about a playful take on the past. The creative spirits behind the 91 rooms and suites at this boutique hotel talk about an "unusual mix of punk rock and avant-garde". It also has plenty to say for itself from a culinary perspective: high above street level on the roof of the historic 1870s building is a restaurant complete with bar and terrace. On the ground floor it has its very own organic bakery that is every bit the equal of the rest of the luxury establishment in terms of decor.

Welcome to the Superbude

Vienna is set to show that it more than lives up to its reputation as a leading city for congresses, meetings, and events of every kind with the opening of a large number of new hotels, especially in the coming months. The opening of the Superbude Wien at the beginning of June 2021 marks the first location of the Superbude Hotels outside Germany. It is located in the immediate vicinity of Messe Wien and offers a hotel concept that combines the best of many worlds: "Hotel comfort, hostel vibe, and home feeling," is how the Superbude describes itself. Business travelers who love a relaxed, contemporary ambience are as warmly welcomed here as weekend visitors. A total of 178 "digs" of between 20 and 57 square meters are available to choose from. Conferences, events, and meetings are also possible at the Superbude. Three differently styled rooms with modern conferencing technology offer space for up to 45 people. The Superbude is also extremely exciting on the food front. "NENI am Prater" is on the same site and is a fantastic Israeli restaurant with bar and rooftop terrace.

Zeitgeist zone: Zoku Vienna

Another exciting addition to the hotel scene has opened right next door to the Superbude. Zoku Vienna is the Netherlands-based Zoku group’s first foray into the Austrian capital. Here, the innovative focus is on balancing leisure and working-from-home requirements. Its special home-office hybrid solution is designed to appeal to people who are often on the road for work. That said, anyone traveling privately will also be in the best possible hands thanks to the stylish and beautifully thought-through interiors at this 131-room boutique hotel. With a touch of hostel chic, the Zoku Hotel philosophy is all about creating places that feel like a home from home the moment guests step through the door. Social spaces are just one of the ways that the operators achieve this: by giving guests a place to mix with each other, it creates a friendly local neighborhood vibe. Hotspots include the rooftop terrace overlooking the Prater park, an in-house event center that is tailor-made for small-scale meetings, and the Living Kitchen where everyone can sit down to dinner together at trestle tables.

Made of wood, but not wooden

A really exciting newcomer among Vienna's hotels is the Dormero HoHo. It is the first project of the Dormero Group in Austria. A special location was chosen for it. The hotel, which opens its doors at the beginning of July 2021, is located in Seestadt Aspern, one of Europe's largest urban development areas. The hotel building itself, the Hoho highrise, is one of the tallest of its kind made from wood in the world, and sets new benchmarks in terms of sustainable construction. It offers a cosmopolitan, relaxed hotel concept with a very youthful atmosphere. On the 15th floor are large seminar rooms with a great panoramic view. The 143-room Dormero Hoho is also interesting for meeting and event guests because a completely new event location is being created in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. The opening of the Ariana, the new event venue, is planned for the end of 2021. Events for 100 to 500 visitors are possible on 1,300 square meters.

Good Vibes: Jaz in the City

The reception recreates a record shop vibe, all 163 rooms and suites have a record player, and the multifunctional event rooms are just as suited to business meetings as to parties of all kinds. Following Amsterdam and Stuttgart, industry newcomer Jaz in the City has now opened a hotel in Vienna. Brimming with zeitgeist, the hotel strikes a distinctly musical chord, and guests can look forward to daily live music, concerts and spontaneous jam sessions. Jaz in the City also hits the right culinary notes: rooftop bar mariatrink Drinks & Views offers a spectacular panorama of the city, accompanied by excellent cocktails. Situated in one of the most sought-after areas of the city, between Mariahilfer Strasse and Naschmarkt, the hotel's location is also bound to make Jaz in the City a hit with visitors.

Green and digital: The Wood

For anyone who puts sustainability first on their trip to Vienna, new hotel The Wood, close to Westbahnhof, ticks all the right boxes. The architects chose spruce – which helps to create a truly natural atmosphere – for the all-timber design. But the construction method isn’t the only thing that’s smart about The Wood. Inside this apartment hotel, which is the perfect choice for longer stays in the city – most of the rooms have a kitchenette – the emphasis is on a fully digital travel experience, with no physical contact with staff. And the reception desk is conspicuous by its absence – instead, guests receive a digital key for self check-in and check-out. Here, digitalization and quality service go hand in hand: guests can access round-the-clock support via their smartphones.

Room at the top: JO&JOE

Open since summer 2021, JO&JOE Vienna, next to Westbahnhof, combines youthful charm with a hostel feel. The hotel is located in a spectacular property with a greened facade – a flagship sustainable development. The building is also home to an innovative city-center branch of Ikea. JO&JOE Vienna occupies the floors above the store. Casual and laid-back, street art elements set the tone for the interior design, and there’s even an in-house cinema. The high point – in every sense – is the 1,800 square meter rooftop terrace. Open to the public, it features 70 fully-fledged trees growing out of giant planters weighing tons.

Pure luxury on the Ringstrasse

If you'd like to experience Vienna in really luxurious style, then you can look forward to some fantastic offerings in 2022. The hotel is located in the historic, former Palais Henckel-Donnersmarck, which was completely remodeled to meet the new requirements. This also includes the creation in the Almanac Vienna of breathtaking event rooms, which are among the most beautiful in Vienna and provide the perfect setting for meetings of every kind. An elegant spa, a concept store, a coffee shop, and a high-class restaurant with bar round off this luxurious project.
