Internet on Board of the Austrian Airlines Airbus Fleet

Send e-mails or WhatsApp messages, or stream your favourite video – with myAustrian FlyNet you can constantly remain connected, even above the clouds. As of now, passengers flying on certain aircraft of the myAustrian Airbus family are able to use Wi-Fi on short-haul and medium-haul flights.

Shortly after boarding, the connection to the plane’s server can be established and free content of the FlyNet portal such as travel guides, myAustrian services and information about austrian.com can be accessed. As soon as the aircraft has reached cruising altitude, it is possible to choose from three fee-based packages: FlyNet MESSAGE, FlyNet SURF or FlyNet STREAM.

The packages are billed via credit card as well as via the online payment service PayPal. Deutsche Telekom serves as the Internet service provider.

The newly equipped myAustrian aircraft can be recognised via a Wi-Fi symbol. Brochures explaining how to access the Internet on board in just a few steps can be found in the seat pockets.

At present, Austrian Airlines is working on a new digital entertainment programme. This is expected to go live via the Wi-Fi network as of summer 2017. This means that passengers with a FlyNet Surf or FlyNet Stream package will be able to use their mobile devices to access an entertainment programme consisting of movies and series. In line with passenger requests, it is still not allowed to make telephone calls on board of Austrian Airlines flights.
