Austrian Ecolabel

The Austrian Ecolabel recognizes products and services with a low environmental impact and stands for high quality. It was created in 1990 on the initiative of the Federal Ministry of Environment. Since then, it has served to inform the public about the environmental effects of products and services and to identify environmentally friendly alternatives.

The Austrian Ecolabel is considered the most important state-certified environmental seal in Austria. It is awarded in four categories: Products or Services, Tourism and Catering Establishments, Educational and Cultural Institutions, and Green Meetings & Events.

To receive the certification, a wide range of environmental criteria must be met. In addition, high standards of durability and quality must be fulfilled. Entrepreneurs, as well as event organizers, can demonstrate their awareness of high environmental quality with the certification.

Events held as Green Meeting or Green Event pay attention to their ecological footprint and assume social responsibility on site. An overview of all licensees in Vienna can be found on the website of the Austrian Ecolabel.

The Ecolabel Guideline 62 "Green Meetings & Green Events" places requirements on the organizing company as well as environmental and social requirements on all aspects of an event.
